Episode 52 – The DS9 Episode

The guys take the opportunity to bask in the kind of Star Trek that they both can agree on: Deep Space 9! They peruse through some of their favorite, mostly focusing on the middle of fifth season where the show really got into a new groove.

Episode 51 – Is Current Sci-Fi Still Good?

Mack opens up with asking DT how he plans to spend the weekend for Easter. Then DT brings up the death of Gilbert Gottfried and they discuss their favorite memories of him and how they grew up watching him. Then DT brings ups the question based off of Mack’s cynicism of new Star Trek: Is new Sci-Fi any good any more? They talk about the perils of so many writers in the industry and how there is great Sci-Fi now but why we see such hit and miss projects too.

Special Episode - Mother’s Day

The guys host a special episode where they discuss the role of mothers in Sci-Fi. It starts off slow and not discussing sci fi but then they get into what Mack would originally be a negative representation of mothers but what turned out to be a SLEW of great moms in Sci-Fi. And then they discuss Picard. Happy Mother’s Day!

Episode 50 – We Reached Fifty!!!

The guys marvel at this special episode and talk about how they got this far. They discuss their favorite episodes and least favorite episodes and what they wish to see change or come about in the future. Then Mack’s internet starts giving them fits and that’s when they decide to call it a night.

Episode 49 – When Normal Shows Go Ful Sci-Fi

The guys briefly talk about how they have been watching Moon Knight and what a pleasant surprise it is. Then they dig in and discuss shows that are not sci-fi but have specific episodes to them that are fully sci-fi in their canon. This includes examples from Happy Days, Bones, and Punky Brewster. Then DT tries to give Mack a pep talk on how to enjoy life when The new Star Trek has him down.

Episode 48 – I Get No Respect

The guys open up discussing how Mack went to see Hamilton and his realization he may be losing hearing ability in the lower band tones. Or there was something wrong with the sound system. DT advised he was never a musical person but loves 1776 which is on brand. Then they discuss the characters in Sci-Fi who are extremely underappreciated in their shows or stories.

Episode 47 – We’re Going to Risa!

The guys open up with some fun technical difficulties. Then they get into the subject of Sci-Fi vacations. They try desperately to find some examples such as Futurama, Battlestar Galactica, Space: Above and Beyond, which is fine. But they can’t think of anything in Star Wars. Then McKay talks about how he wants to try his father’s home made pizza recipe and they wax on about different pizza’s they loved and how they inadvertently grew up on Greek Pizza, not Italian. Then they talk about Star Trek, the formation of Risa, and how it was used in multiple episodes.

Episode 46 – The Special Edition

The guys discuss the value of the Special Edition. It’s been used to improve the vision of Directors of previous Sci FI movies, including George Lucas. But Steven Spielberg also was guilty for it with the 2002 edition of ET. One added some value. The other did not. So what is the line where a special edition is warranted or not?

Episode 45 - Fleet Week

The guys start off with a little bit of banter back and forth like always but then get into what they’ve been meaning to talk about the last two shows now: The different fleets of Sci-Fi. They go through Shows like Stargate SG-1, Babylon 5, Exosquad, Star Wars and Star Trek. Not necessarily ranking them but talking about what they liked ab out each one with their strengths and weaknesses.

Episode 44 – Mack Ruins the Show

It’s the end of everything when Mack is involved

The guys open up about how their high school is being torn down and their thoughts about time.

Then Mack attempts to discuss the Stacey Abrams cameo on Discovery and the value/ramificaitons of having real politicians in Star Trek. Is it inclusive? Then DT gets pissed at Mack for going this topic because it’s too big to abandon and focus on their original plans. Then they go onto discuss the Justice League and it’s moments.

Then it goes off the rails for a third time.

Episode 43 – Off the Rails Part Deux

The guys begin with talking about how their high school literature assignments helped them in real life which was not at all. Then they talk about how the Lord of the Rings show on Amazon is not that exciting. This leads to hem ignoring their original topic and talking about reboots or continuations and how the original writer can influence the program and if newer writers only ruin what we love.

Episode 42 – The Scary Episode

The guys open with a back and forth about how Mac thought Varsity Blues was revolutionizing football when he first saw it in High School only to realize his naiveite upon rewatch as an adult and now knowing how football works. Then they go into today’s subject about different shows in Sci-Fi that were scary or suspenseful but not the basis of the show itself. A genre bender on the creepy side. And Mac disqualifies himself by mentioning the X-Files.

Episode 41 – The Engineers of Sci-Fi

McKay has a microphone issue. They discuss the importance of a 5-10 year plan and DT living alone with his thoughts. The lack of wisdom in investing in the Franklin Mint collections. And then they delve into the different engineers of Sci-Fi, their foibles, their strengths, and their differences.

Episode 40 – The Second Great Score

The guys open up with the utter BS that Paramount pulled on Star Trek fan accounts today by having accounts suspended on twitter for posting stills from the Strange New Worlds trailer. They rant on how Paramount is following CBS in how it tried to shy from controversy by ostracizing the fan base rather than having them involved in development like Marvel Studios does. Then they explore the scores of Star Wars and Star Trek and how they work on their own merits.

Episode 39 – Picard Season 2.1 – An Apology?

The guys get right into it when they prepped for a different show but both realized they watch Picard Season 2 Episode 1 right before recording and change plans. They note the differences in Starfleet, how the show gives more fidelity to the Berman era and wonder if the producers were actually listening. Then McKay in his usual cynical ways questions if having Q in the show cheapens the TNG season finale.

Episode 38 – When the Future Comes True

Sisko as Gabriel Bell in Past Tense Part 2 - DS9

The guys open up on how things are going in Ukraine and Mac asks the enthralling questions about logistics and prepping an army and why Russia seems to be having a hard time of it. DT is hardly surprised and is patient in his answers. Then they get into the part that matters and discuss how real life was predicted by Sci-Fi not only with devices but with homelessness and Sanctuary Districts as shown in DS9. And then things go off topic but that’s ok.

Episode 37 – A Winter on Fire but with Sci-Fi Food

Mac opens the show with his despair about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. DT listens and has the best answer: War just sucks. There is nothing good about it. After a sufficient venting period the Guys dive into different foods shown in different sci-fi episodes. It strangely focuses on Futurama.

Episode 36 – The Book of the Mandalorian?

The guys talk about how the internet has backlashed against the revival of Futurama without the voice of Bender. Then how Mac didn’t resonate with Disenchantment, the other Matt Groening project on Netflix that is most definitely NOT cancelled. They eventually move on to discuss the Book of Boba Fett, it’s ups and downs, and their confusion on what it was originally meant to be versus what we got.

Episode 35 – The Biggest Score

Mac opens up with how his last few days went along with seeing Jackass Forever with his brother in the middle of a weekday. Then he goes on to detail how his brother roped him into playing Call of Duty Zombies. Then they discuss playing Call of Duty while deployed. DT details the Blizzard that ran through New England. Eventually they get into the topic of the day which is their favorite Sci-Fi movie scores. There are glaring omissions but McKay makes it very clear he loves horns.

Episode 34 – The DeLorean isn’t a Small Ship

Mack opens the show with how the ground hog refuses to predict an early winter and DT makes a Covid joke. They talk about how they could live life without shaking hands again and how that benefitted DT in Iraq. After discussing maritime law and how the drinking laws work on cruises, the guys move on to discuss various small ships in Sci-Fi. And Mack of course brings up the DeLorean where DT vehemently disagrees. It goes downhill from there.
